The music scene in Leeds has always been vibrant, with something for everyone whether you’re into hardcore or up for a rave. We tracked down the best music sites in the city.
The number of music blogs in Leeds has declined rapidly since our last survey in 2015, but there are still online music magazines with a strong following. One website that has stood the test of time is LeedsMusicScene established in 1998.
Since we first checked in 2013 the number of twitter followers has doubled. Other sites like Vibrations magazine have a larger social media following, but LeedsMusicScene gets more online traffic. Vibrations was a strong second place.
BangTheDrum magazine is specific to local bands and gigs, with reviews of previous gigs available for you to peruse and a solid twitter following. Flux is the final website on this list. It started as a Leeds based site, but has now branched as far as the continent.
All the magazines we looked at cover local gigs and have features about bands and venues.
In 2017 artists use social media as a way of communicating with fans so blogs are becoming more and more redundant. Most local bands with a small following use Twitter and Facebook rather than magazines and other related websites. When we check again in another year, will any of the above sites still exist? Who knows.
