Step away from the Costa that is built on every corner, and step into the vintage tearooms or the independent coffee house that mirror a little bit of Italy. Here are our five best coffee and tea shops:

5. San Co Co – 4.5 / 5
LS1 6NU

This cafe is situated in the middle of Leeds city centre; its guests channeling in from the surrounding shops and attractions. True to its cosmopolitan nature, the shop is early to rise, opening at 8AM to give the bustling early commuters their morning “pick me up.” Regardless of how much it’s customers rely on it, it doesn’t take advantage of this, supplying fresh food, hot coffee and warm atmosphere at reasonable prices every day.

4. Sociable Folk – 4.5 / 5
LS1 4AP

The Sociable Folk not only boasts great coffee and tea but also an excellent food menu. Based in a lovely spot with modern decor and design. Reasonably priced, the Folk is great value for money and with super fast service and a welcoming atmosphere. Not only a nice spot for lunch, the atmosphere makes for a great place for an early evening hangout spot to get a something a little stronger from the bar.

3. La Bottega Milanese – 4.5 / 5
LS1 8TL

The Bottega Milanese is a little taste of Italy situated right in Leeds City Centre in a convenient location in The Light.. The coffee is consistently a great hit with customers and is served with style. There’s many a choice when it comes to adding a sweet treat to your afternoon, as the Bottega has a great selection of cakes and desserts. The savoury selection is also highly praised with a great variety of Italian cuisine.

2. Laynes Espresso – 4.5 / 5

LS1 5OL

Since 2011, Laynes Espresso have offered their guests coffees from the furthest corners of the world. Located near the train station, this coffee shop is wonderful for an early breakfast before catching a train, or a homemade cake to watch the world go by. This independent cafe depicts variety and quality for their guests. Furthermore, Laynes Espresso offers a reasonably priced menu for most of the public and a cosy, friendly environment.

1. Just Grand! Vintage Tearoom – 4.5 / 5

LS1 6PG

This Vintage Tearoom based in the Victorian Arcade holds a family friendly and a relaxed atmosphere. Over 90 loose leaf teas are supplied with full menu offering sandwiches, scones and cakes. Hot water bottles and knitted blankets are offered to curl up and sink into the themed music playing in the background. It’s hard to distinguish if it’s the warmth of a freshly ground coffee or the friendliness of the staff – but there’s a warmth and homely atmosphere within this tearoom.
