Leeds is often over-looked in terms of its music scene but we have found excellent music venues that attract all ages.

Larger cities such as London and Manchester are famous for their music hotspots. However, we think they should take some advice from our Yorkshire rose…Leeds. With bands such as Kaiser Chiefs, Alt-J, The Cribs and The Pigeon Detectives, it is no wonder that Leeds has such a huge music scene. We have compiled a list of the top 5 most popular music venues.
1. First Direct Arena, 8.8/10 stars
First, officially opened in 2013 by Sir Elton John and has since hosted the likes of Morrissey, Miley Cyrus and most recently the MOBO Awards. It has a whopping capacity of 13,500 seats and is infamous for colourfully lighting up Leeds at night. It has received a number of trip advisor reviews such as; ‘a great venue for live shows’ and ‘excellent and helpful staff’.
2. Brudenell Social Club, 8.5/10 stars
As it was opened in 1913, the Brudenell Social Club is one of Leeds’ oldest music venues. It is popular with music fans for many reasons such as the intimacy of each gig performed as well as the cheap and wide range of beer on tap. It also has a great games room and often shows various sports matches as well as serving food throughout the day. There is something for everybody here.
3. Belgrave Music Hall, 8.4/10 stars
After first opening its doors in 1934, Belgrave Music Hall is widely known for its cheap burgers and pints. It is popular amongst most people, especially students. It has a capacity of 200 people and spreads over 3 floors, holding gigs upstairs. One of its main attractions is the rooftop bar. It is uniquely known for sometimes holding art exhibitions. Although, be careful because large single sex groups will not be admitted.
4. Sela, 8.2/10 stars
Situated in New Briggate, Sela opened itself to Leeds in 2004 and is quite hidden away in the middle of town. They are famous for holding a long running band jams on Tuesday nights, as well as holding other monthly events. Offering the usual typical beer at a normal music venue, Sela offers other things such as cocktails and pizza.
5. The Hop 8.0/10 stars
The Hop opened its doors in 2011 and has live bands from all different music genres performing every Friday and Saturday night; blues to rock, soul to indie, and funk to pop. It is located beneath leeds city railway station underneath the tracks and spills over two tunnels, with is a quirky location which makes the venue even more popular than it already is.
